I had the pleasure of photographing a wonderful young family recently. Their little girl was completely adorable, and had the cutest Christmas dresses I’ve seen to date. Did I mention that I love, love, love tutus? In fact, I’m thinking of getting a few for the studio next year, so I can have them available for portrait sessions.
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I feel blessed to have the opportunity to meet so many wonderful people through my job. I hope that I give a little bit of that joy back through my photos.
I’m also really thankful that I don’t live in Arizona. It’s not that I wouldn’t like 70 degree weather right now, but the sunlight there is always almost directly over head. That makes really ugly photos unless you overpower it with a flash to fill in the shadows. My husband says he never noticed the light until he married a photographer. Here in the Pacific Northwest, especially in Eastern Washington, the light is always so beautiful. So while I lament that it’s dark by 4:30 p.m. now, at least the light is that beautiful rose or golden color most of the day.
Speaking of taking pictures in gorgeous light, a recent family portrait session with a Connell family was so much fun. Their three beautiful daughters had so much vitality and personality. I especially loved that their middle daughter spent her time there on an “adventure” looking for dolphins in Scootney Reservoir. Lets hope she found them!
I just love taking pictures during the fall. It’s such a beautiful season. The beautiful colors. The beautiful grasses and leaves. Not to mention all the beautiful people. Take this gorgeous couple for example. We did Lisa and Ray’s Love Story Session in the Potholes State Park near Othello, Wash. If you’ve never been there, you should really check it out. It stretches for 640 acres. Almost all the way between Othello and Moses Lake.
Ray and Lisa were such a fun couple. You’d never know how cold it was because they were smoking hot. They met, again, at their high school reunion. If that’s not motivation to go to your class reunion, I don’t know what is.
Meet Luka. This handsome little charmer just turned nine months old. His mother and father are such proud parents, and they wanted to get photos of him before he grew up too fast. He really was a happy baby, and I just couldn’t stop taking pictures of him.
A recent assignment I did for USA Today was pretty exciting. Who knew Moses Lake, Wash. would make national news for their aviation program at Big Bend Community College. The story was about helping community college students transfer to a university. I had a lot of fun photographing the student as he carefully went through his pre-flight checklist, and then as he completed a flying lesson. I just wish I had known his lesson was going to be on engine stalls and touch-and-go landings. Yikes! It’s a good thing I didn’t eat lunch.
