Nine Day Old Baby Girl : Sunnyside Newborn Photography

How perfect is she?!!! I got to play with this little beauty in my studio recently for her newborn session. She was almost two weeks late, yet slept like a dream when she wasn’t just chilling checking us out with her big bright eyes. We had so much fun with her! I can’t wait to she how much she changes in six months at her next baby plan session.

Are you pregnant or know someone who is and would like to book a newborn session with me? Perhaps you’re over due for child or family portraits (when was the last time you, Mom, where actually in pictures?!). April and May are filling up, so please contact me quickly if you’d like to schedule a portrait session. Even better, April and early May are orchard blossom season, and it’s just about the prettiest time of year in the Columbia Valley to take pictures.

Oh so much to share from this beautiful recent newborn portrait session. This little one’s mama is a very talented hair and makeup artist who works extensively with the Tri-Citie photographer community. So I knew when she contacted me about newborn baby pictures it was going to be not just beautiful but creative too.

All of my portrait session include an in person pre-session consultation. It is so critical to collaborate, so your final images turn out exactly as you want them, and they compliment your style, so they can be beautifully displayed in your home. When I can, I like to do this consult at the client’s home, so I can immediately get a feel for their personal style.

When I met with Heather I knew exactly what her distinct style was. It was soft neutrals, blushes, and gold accents. A gorgeous mixture of hard and soft, romantic and classic. Very much a Restoration Hardware look than say Pottery Barn or West Elm. Imagine if this consult hadn’t been done, and I had chosen reds and greens or something too bright for the baby portrait colors. It wouldn’t have gone with her decor at all! That’s why a custom photographer is truly that, we create art for you, for your home. You’re not just another session to me. You’ve commissioned me to create art and to document a monumental time in your life. They should be perfect, and exactly what you always dreamed of.

For this session Heather wanted to use her Vera Wang wedding dress. Would that interest me, she asked. Are you kidding! I was beyond excited about it. I thought a vintage dress form would be the perfect way to display it. Heather found one at Melange, in Sunnyside, and they graciously let us use it for the shoot. We also picked a bench from her home, and she brought her Jimmy Choo shoes she wore for the wedding. Talk about a beautiful set of props to work with. Heather surprised me that day with two absolutely perfect fresh baby’s breath halos from her favorite local florist, Twigs and Petals. What a perfect compliment they were.

The second set of props she brought was for her husband. She wanted to make a special image for his office. He’s an avid hunter, so she brought some elk antlers of his. Oh my goodness, they were giant! How cool they were to work with. I pared it with furs and naturally knitted blankets, and a driftwood slab to give it that mixture of hard and soft used throughout their home. I adore how it turned out. The images are serene and beautiful, like a baby Norse goddess.

Little baby V is such a beauty, and I’m truly honored to have captured her newborn portraits.  I can’t wait to photograph her 6-month and 1-year baby portraits!

Until then enjoy!

I’m working on this beautiful new mama and baby’s newborn portrait session. Oh my, I can not wait to share even more from this session later. This little beauty’s baby pics involved her mama’s Vera Wang wedding gown, a vintage dress form, Jimmy Choo shoes, a fresh baby’s breath headpiece, giant elk antlers, and furs. OK, OK…they weren’t all in the same image, but you’ll just have to wait and see how amazing they all turned out. In the mean time, I just had to share this sweet and simple image of mother and child. What a beautiful pair they make, don’t you think?newborn baby pics from Tri-Cities, WA, West Richland portraits

Summerland Favorites: Moses Lake & Tri-Cities Portrait Photographer

2013 was a blessed year for me. Not in the least because of all the wonderful clients whom I have had the honor of photographing this past year. You give my work purpose, and for that I am grateful.

In no particular order here are a few of my favorites from the year that did not make my Facebook Top 10 Fan Favorites. But that doesn’t mean they aren’t mine. 🙂

Orange Crush: The coordinating outfit and backdrop was a lucky find. Her mischievous smile was all hers, and the light peaking through the steel girders was the icing on the cake.

I love this maternity session, so full of light and beautiful. Just like her.Ephrata, WA family portrait photographer

It was soooo cold at this session, but he was such a little trooper, and it made me laugh how he kept sticking his tongue out at me.

What’s not to love about this little sweetheart. She gave me serious baby fever that day.Moses Lake, WA wedding photographer

Getting permission to photograph at this epic location was a hassle, but it was so worth it. Besides, I needed something cool to match his motorcycle.

I usually end every senior portrait session with a sunset picture and camera strobes. This was absolutely one of my favorites.Yakima, WA newborn photographer

Getting to incorporate a family’s cultural heritage in their images puts me over the moon. The fact that she’s so darn adorable makes it even better.

I can’t wait to see what adventures 2014 has in store!

It’s been awhile since I’ve entered a Rock The Shot monthly contest. But the new year is a time for reflection, and the challenge for January is to pick your favorite image from 2013. I had to think about this for quite awhile. How could I possibly choose a favorite from a year full of  images all holding  a tight grip on my heart? In the end it was this one because it truly represents who I am as a photographer. It is the light, it is the girl transformed, it is summer in 1/1250 of a second.
