Tis the season for Fall family portraits! I’m so excited to show you this rocking session. Local boudoir photographer and certified personal wardrobe stylist extraordinaire Faith Hovde of Emerald Studios came to see me about getting some family pictures done that, gasp, actually had her in them! Well I can sure relate to that one. When you’re the mama and the picture taker in the family there’s only so much you can do with a tripod and a remote camera trigger.
I knew the outfits were going to be fabulous, after all, that’s what she does best. So to match that we chose a few locations that would work well with three handsome boys and a glamorous mama. Add a little off-camera lighting to give it some pop and bring out those overcast, moody skies, and you’ve got yourself a portrait session to show off this ultra cool family.

What an incredibly busy summer it’s been here at Summerland Photography. It just seems like the weeks are flying by, and I’ve so, so many beautiful sessions to share. I thought I’d start it off with a super fun one near and dear to my heart. This family made a three and a half hour trip from their home in Eastern Oregon for their family portraits. The mom is a talented photographer herself from Brown Road Photography. She’s one of several photographer family sessions I’m blessed to be doing this summer.
It always means a lot to me when a peer trusts me with their own portraits. I know how hard it is to put yourself in another’s hands when you’re used to being behind the camera lens and not in front of it. Even more important as a mom, who is also the photographer, it’s not very often you’re actually in the pictures with your children and family. So I’m particularly mindful of capturing those moments for them. It’s also super helpful to have the perspective of experiencing family portraits yourself, so you know what your own clients go through for each session.
In this case it was blazing hot with triple digit, make-up melting temps, two boisterous (and adorable) boys constantly on the move, and a husband who may or may not want to be there, lol. And like most moms she was worried we didn’t get a thing. In other words, it was just like every other family portrait session on the planet.
Spring has sprung! Yay! What a busy season it’s been for the studio too. I guess I’m not the only one with spring fever and excited to get out in Eastern Washington’s beautiful green landscape before it all turns to the golds and browns of summer and fall. I’ve so many recent sessions to share, and I’d like to start out with a very special one. What a beautiful first-time mama to be she is. I actually photographed this couple’s wedding several years ago, so it’s an honor to be able to document the next important chapter in their life: a baby! In fact we even did some of their bridal portraits in this same location. The couple thought it would be a lovely way to come full circle in their relationship. Their little girl will be here very soon, and I can’t wait to capture her newborn portraits too! Until then enjoy!
Five fabulous cousins, the coolest location EVAH, and clothes to die for. Yep, I was in photographer heaven. Love, love, love this group of kids. I’ve photographed them all since they were newborns, and it’s been like watching my own kids grow up. XXOO
